AICU Launches National Essay Competition on Church’s Role in Strengthening Indian Democracy
The All India Catholic Union has launched a nationwide essay competition inviting Catholics to explore the Church’s role in strengthening India’s democratic framework. Open to participants across the country, the contest offers cash awards, certificates, and publication opportunities while promoting responsible citizenship, faith, and democratic values.
Open to Catholics from all regions of India, the competition is intended to provide a platform for writers to express their perspectives on how Christian values can contribute to the growth of democracy and the common good. Organisers said the essays must be written in English, typed, and restricted to a length of 500 to 700 words. Entries are required to be submitted in PDF format through electronic mail.
The deadline for submissions has been fixed for July 20, 2026, while the results will be declared on August 15, coinciding with the country’s Independence Day celebrations.
To ensure wider participation, the All India Catholic Union has announced cash awards and trophies for the top three winners. The first prize carries a cash award of ₹10,000, while the second and third prizes carry ₹7,000 and ₹5,000 respectively. In addition, ten consolation awards of ₹1,000 each will also be presented.
All participants will receive certificates. Organisers further stated that the winning essay will be published in print and on social media platforms along with the author’s photograph, providing broader visibility to the writer’s contribution.
Officials emphasised that all submissions must be original and unpublished. They warned that the use of Artificial Intelligence in preparing essays would lead to immediate disqualification. They also clarified that the decision of the judging panel would be final and binding.
The competition reflects the All India Catholic Union’s continuing commitment to promoting intellectual discourse, informed citizenship, and active participation within the Catholic community. By encouraging Catholics to examine the relationship between faith and democracy, the organisation hopes to inspire meaningful reflection on the Church’s mission in India’s diverse and democratic society.
